To-ji temple

To-ji temple is one of world heritages in Kyoto. This temple is famous for its Five-Storied Pagoda. When Shinkansen bullet train comes to Kyoto from west, you can see this great Pagoda. I think this is one of the symbol of Kyoto.

But To-ji temple isn’t only this Five-Storied Pagoda. Buddha statues in Koudo of here are quite great. These statues are called 3-D Mandala. Mandala is a mapping art of Buddha system. Many temples have such mandala arts but they are almost only 2-D art. Old painter painted Mandala, but in this To-ji temple sculptors made many big statues about Mandala mapping, so we can see Buddhism world as 3-D. If you don’t know much about Buddhism, don’t worry. No problem. These statues are so beautiful. Especially Taishaku-ten statue is famous for its beautiful face. You can see the Five-Storied Pagoda from outside of the gate, but it’s not enough. Please watch these 21 Buddha statues. There are 15 National treasure within 21 statues in this Koudo of To-ji temple.
