Tenryu-ji temple

Tenryu-ji temple is a Rinzai sect Daihonzan (head temple), made in 1339. But there were big fire many times, so the structures were made in these 150 years. When you go inside of this temple, you can see the big pond. It is the famous Sougenchi pond. When you watch this pond from inside the building, you should see the green hill over the pond. The hill is outside of this temple. It is ‘Shakkei’. Shakkei means making use of the surrounding landscape in the design of a garden. Tenyu-ji temple is one of the best Shakkei garden in Japan. You can go outside the building, walk this garden, after going through the garden, you can reach the famous bamboo forest.
