Everybody can guide in English here. But there is an official Guide License of Japan Government. We must try the examination for it if we need to get this official license. I made my mind to try it on Jan 2019.
First step of this exam was 18th Aug. In this exam I had to try 5 subjects, history, geography, general knowledge, practical business affairs for travel and of course English language. I felt nervous about them because everybody said that this first step was so difficult to pass. But I made it! The passing rate was 16% but I made it!
Second step was 7th Dec. That exam was an interview with native English speakers. I did exercizes many times, and did it on that day.
I thought I could do it, but there were no model answer, so I couldn’t know I passed it or failed it until the announcement of the results. The day was 7th Feb. I checked the web site, I found my name there!
I prepared an application forms for the license and went to Kyoto prefectural office on 14th Feb. Waited 3 weeks, finally they sent me the License!
From now I can say that I am a National Licensed Guide Interpreter. Please ask me your travel guide in Japan! I’m living in Kyoto, I want to guide you in Kyoto. But I can guide you all over Japan! Please ask me anytime!
