16th August is a holy day for Kyoto. At 20:00 fire character figured should be burned on some mountains. Most famous fire is called as daimonji because its figure is like dai(means’big’) .
There are other figures, so I visited ‘Hou(raw)’ fire.
In this summer season dead men’s soul come their home from their heaven, and on this day they should go back to the heavens. Big fire on the mountain are the signs of the way to heaven. So this event is quite holy one for citizen praying their ancestors, not for travelers want to take pictures. But of course you can take pictures for Instagram and feel something about Kyoto.
After the Okuribi, Kyoto would become cooler day by day. We will feel autumn soon. (But for seeing red maple leaves we have to wait until late November)
